Evil is so hard to confront directly because it exerts a gravitational field of its own, by which it sucks others in. This is the mechanism behind Conservative MPs in Canada who floor-cross to the Liberals, why the good women end up falling for the terrible narcissists, why cruel people become unremittingly popular, or why you can still broadcast Communist flags and ideology in public without the moral knee-jerk of Hitler and Nazism.

In other words, real evil isn't repulsive (until you find out all too late). It's seductive.

Therefore, it is one thing to announce that you are against "Bad." It is another thing to put yourself at risk to confront self-sustaining evil; the paradox of being brave enough to challenge evil directly is, you will lose. When you confront the machine, it doesn't "debate" you; it erases you. It uses its "sugar shield" to paint you as the villain, it uses its financial power to isolate you, and it uses its social network to make you a pariah.

In the eyes of the machine, you are a failure because you aren't "growing" according to their metrics.

But you are a "failure," only by the standards of a system who is inherently fraudulent by nature.

I made an earlier tweet about assholes, after reflecting on my experience of reporting an abusive kid on Fortnite, much to the dismay of some of the people in that lobby who were starting to take a liking to him.

There's an asshole event horizon, where someone's dickishness manages to ingratiate itself with people, to the point that they are bafflingly associating themselves with an asshole.

I have encountered this in Fortmegle, where a kid accused me of sounding like a pedophile - that was a hard skip. Then I encountered him again, this time engaged with a girl, and he was bragging to her about how "off-putting" and "pedophile" I sounded while I remained silent, with disdain towards him and the girl who is enthralled by him.

A parasitic cell, like a cancer or tumour, forms a sugar shield, which prevents proper rejection by the body in the form of white blood cells, so it is allowed to continue its malignance with impunity. It's analogous to the asshole event horizon, which is why it's important to carry genuine principles from which you act on unconditionally when the moral reality around you has been warped to inversion, such that white is black, and black is white - all to the effect of cruelty being allowed to prevail.

You need to abide by principles (a North Star beyond the confines of the system), because otherwise you will be lost when the floor is made to be the ceiling, and vice versa. I have dealt with psychological situations like this when I had previously dealt with say, feminists and (malignant) narcissists.
